1. Paint Thickness in Microns (µm)

2. Decoding Tyre DOT Date Codes

Every tyre manufactured globally features an embossed 4-digit code in an oval on the sidewall indicating the exact week and year of manufacture. Dealers sometimes swap fresh tyres for older stockyard stock.

A Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) is a thorough 155+ checkpoint physical and electronic examination of a brand new car conducted before RTO registration and final payment. It verifies the vehicle's manufacturing date, paint uniformity, electronic health, odometer reading, and ensures it is free from dealership transit damage.
The ideal time to do PDI is right after the dealer assigns you the chassis/VIN number at the stockyard or showroom, and BEFORE paying the full balance or approving RTO vehicle registration. Once registered in your name at the RTO, the vehicle cannot be replaced if major defects are found.
No. As a paying consumer under the Consumer Protection Act in India, you have the full legal right to inspect the product you are purchasing before accepting delivery and before permanent registration. Legitimate authorized dealerships always facilitate customer or third-party professional PDI. If a dealer refuses, do not sign registration papers.
Factory OEM paint thickness across modern Indian passenger vehicles (Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Kia, etc.) generally measures between 80 and 125 microns (µm). A reading exceeding 180 to 200 microns indicates that the panel has been repainted, while readings above 300 microns indicate body putty/filler repair.
An acceptable new car odometer reading is typically under 50 km for cars driven directly off delivery trailers at local stockyards, or up to 80-100 km if the dealer stockyard is located on city outskirts. Any reading over 120 km warrants a written explanation from the dealer.
